Historically, the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), Division of Syndemic and Substance Use Services (DSSUS), maintained parallel HIV systems, one for prevention and education and one for care and treatment. As we work towards ending the HIV epidemic, DSSUS is evolving to create a comprehensive status-neutral HIV system of services through the expansion of HIV testing, harm reduction, HIV management, and supportive services via a syndemic framework. This system reflects a partnership between the Division, community-based organizations (CBOs), and clinical agencies providing direct services to New Jersey communities.Â
To support the development of a workforce with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and client-centered services, DSSUS has partnered with Jefferson Health - East Region to create the NJ HIV Training and Capacity Development (TACD) Program as part of the NJ HIV Community Support and Development Initiative (HCSDI). The mission of the NJ TACD Program is to develop and implement a comprehensive training program to support ending the HIV epidemic in New Jersey.
We offer a core curriculum which provides foundational knowledge on HIV services and core competencies required of all individuals in roles funded by the Division, along with role-specific training and capacity development opportunities to assist in this mission.
